How to upsell complementing items in a sales quote?

Use Case:

As a sales representative it’s your job to help your customers as best as possible by selling them all necessary items to get their job done. Some items are often bought together, for example a door and a door handle. Imagine your company is selling a new door and for installing it you need a specific kind of door fitting. A customer calls you to request a quote for this new door, however, because you don’t know the product that well, you forget to offer the specific door fitting.
The next Monday the customer contacts you again, angry, because she wanted to install the door during the weekend and could not do so because the door fitting was missing. You apologize and sell the door fitting at a discount.
Let’s see how this could have been prevented!

HowTo: Use Item Accessories in a Sales Quote

Before you can use this functionality, you have to assign complementing items to a main item, let’s see how you do this by going to the Item Card of the main item.

From the menu go to Related > Item > Item Accessory, here you can easily add the complementing items.

Extra tip: You can even add Item Accessories to a specific variant. This way when creating a Sales Quote for that variant not only do the Item Accessories for the Item show up, the Item Accessories for that variant will also be shown.

Now that you have set this up, it’s time to create a Sales Quote for the main item as usual.

Once you have added the main item as a Sales Line, open up the FactBox by clicking on the ℹ️ icon at the top right corner of the screen.

Scroll down to find a blue number behind Item Accesory & click on it (or use the Keyboard Shortcut Shift+Ctrl+Z)

The Created Variant Sales Lines opens where you can see the Item Accessories for this item. Fill in the amount per accessory to simply add them to the Sales Quote.

You can even create a Sales Quote with different options for the customer. In the example below, you can see that we offer two different edges (Kante in German). As only one type of edge is necessary, we can choose one of them (preferably the most expensive one) as an Alternative position by checking the checkbox in the Sales Line.

Now, when you send the Sales Quote, the alternative option will be mentioned with the price in brackets & the amount will not be added to the Total amount of the Sales Quote.

Conclusion

When using this functionality as a sales representative, you can be sure that you never forget to offer complementing items to your customers. Even when there is a new item or you have just started and not enough experience to know which item should be sold with which.
