Embracing change: the move to Business Central 

Felix Clercx’s journey with acadon began in 2021, just a few months before Mark joined the company. The decision to migrate from Navision, which had reached its end of life, to Business Central was driven by the need for a more robust and future-proof ERP system. Mark, who serves as the main contact between Felix and acadon, played a pivotal role in overseeing this transition. 

“At the beginning, it was difficult to get to know the new ERP system,” Mark recalls. “But after a few months, everything became routine, especially for logistics and sales. We faced smaller and bigger issues, mostly at the beginning, which required more time for troubleshooting, development, and customizations to meet the specific needs of the company.” 

The benefits of modernization 

One of the most significant changes brought about by the migration was the move to the cloud. This shift not only enhanced the efficiency of Felix Clercx’s operations but also reduced their reliance on paper-based processes.

“A lot of things have been automatized, such as scanning, EDI customizations, and approval workflows,” Mark explains. “These basic improvements require less and less paper, making our work more efficient.” 

The cloud-based system also helped better resource management and streamlined workflows. “Since we moved to the cloud, we have been following modern standards, making the company more efficient in terms of time and resources,” Mark adds. 

Overcoming challenges with acadon’s support 

The transition from Navision to Business Central was not without its challenges. However, the support provided by acadon played a crucial role in ensuring a smooth process. Mark highlights the effectiveness of acadon’s ticketing system, which allowed Felix Clercx to prioritize and address issues promptly. “If something crucial comes up, acadon is always there to help us work it out as quickly as possible,” he says. 

Mark also praises the acadon team for their responsiveness and expertise. “It’s an ambitious young team with a good balance of less and more experienced personnel. We never had an issue that couldn’t be solved together,” he notes. 

Looking ahead: continuous improvement

While Felix Clercx has made significant strides in modernizing their ERP system, Mark acknowledges that there is always room for improvement. “We are not there yet. There will always be possibilities to make our processes more efficient and faster,” he says. The company continues to work closely with acadon to implement new ideas and feedback, ensuring that their ERP system evolves to meet their changing needs. 

A recommendation for the timber industry 

Reflecting on their journey, Mark strongly recommends the transition from Navision to Business Central for other companies in the timber industry. “Navision is out of support, and Business Central, with its cloud-based capabilities, is the way forward. It’s more comfortable for everyone and allows for in-house development of solutions,” he explains. 

Mark also endorses acadon as a valuable partner in this process. “I would surely recommend acadon. Their ticketing system, responsiveness, and the ability to track and prioritize issues make them a dependable partner. The specific business layer that acadon focuses on, combining Microsoft and timber industry expertise, is a significant benefit.”
